Tools For Product Specifiers

Product Specifiers help to turn design ideas into viable end products. Whether the goal is a new product line or a one-time construction project, product specifiers aim for procurement guidelines that meet project needs and many regulatory requirements for safety and performance. Canplast' TOOLS FOR PRODUCT SPECIFIERS' provides helpful product and technical information assisting the designers and architects to find the right Edgebanding and to meet procurement guidelines as well as regulatory requirements for safety and performance.

Quality of Edgebanding

Edgebanding is a small detail in the overall list of products that flow into a project. However, the right choice in Edgebanding quality can have a significant impact on the quality of the project including transportation to the construction site, installation and long-term appearance.

The following information assists in the decision making process to specify the right Edgebanding product:

High Traffic Areas

Project Requirement: High traffic areas
Product Requirement: Impact Resistance
Thickness: 1 – 3mm
Surface: Smooth or Textured
Polymer: PVC, Boldline Multiform (BMF) or KLEAR-VU acrylic
Comment: The thicker the Edgebanding the higher the impact resistance. Canplast 3mm product offers the highest impact resistance possible and is perfectly suited for institutional cabinetry (schools, hospitals, libraries).

Canplast 3mm PVC Edgebanding provides the highest impact resistance particularly suited for instituional cabinetry in schools, libraries, hospitals.

Project Requirement: High traffic areas
Product Requirement: Dirt Resistance
Thickness: .018 – 3mm
Surface: Smooth
Polymer: PVC, KLEAR_VU acrylic
Comment: A smooth texture will help to clean the Edgebanding surface easily. Most of Canplast's Edgebandings come with a smooth finish. Please request a sample chain.

Canplast Edgebanding comes with a smooth surface finish providing an increased dirt resistance.

Hidden Areas

Project Requirement: Hidden areas
Product Requirement: Edge Sealing
Thickness: .018 - 1mm
Surface: Smooth or Textured
Polymer: PVC
Comment: Thinner Edgebanding is a cost effective edge treatment that maintains the board integrity and quality.

Thinner Edgebanding provides a cost effective way to cover the edge in areas where impact resistance and visual appearance is less relevant.

Visible Areas

Project Requirement: Visible areas
Product Requirement: Visual and tactile stimulation
Thickness: 2 – 3mm
Surface: Smooth
Polymer: PVC, Boldline Multiform (BMF), KLEAR-VU
Comment: Thicker Edgebanding can be trimmed with a rounded edge giving the board a higher quality visual appearance. Canplast's Boldline Multiform Edgebanding comes with an already grooved surface providing an interesting detail for desks and table tops.

Safety Areas

Project Requirement: Safety
Product Requirement: Rounded Edges
Thickness: 1 – 3mm
Surface: Smooth or Textured
Polymer: PVC, KLEAR-VU acrylic
Comment: Canplast Edgebanding eliminates visible joints and sharp edges. The edge can be trimmed in various shapes (angled, rounded, etc.) to increase the visible integrity between laminate surface and Edgebanding and reduce possible safety hazards.

Canplast Edgebanding eliminates visible joints and sharp edges. This increases the visible integrity between laminate surface and Edgebanding and reduces possible safety hazards.

Moisture Areas

Project Requirement: Moisture
Product Requirement: Tight bond between Edgebanding and substrate
Thickness: .018" – 3mm
Surface: Smooth or Textured
Polymer: PVC, KLEAR-VU acrylic, Boldline Multiform (BMF)
Comment: Especially in areas where furniture is exposed to water or moisture it is particularly important to apply the right Edgebanding and hotmelt adhesive. Canplast Edgebandings are delivered with a high-quality primer on the back providing a lasting bond to the substrate. Canplast also supplies high-quality hotmelts making it a perfect union between Edgebanding, substrate and hotmelt.

Applying the right hotmelt and Edgebanding will eliminate the penetration of moisture and swelling of the substrate.
